Getting traffic to a blog can take a variety of actions. Traffic doesn’t just come from one place or technique but from a culmination of many things. Here’s a quick checklist of 10 things you can do to get your blog traffic kick-started. Try one or several a day to steadily grow your traffic.
- Install Google Analytics. This will tell you where your traffic is coming from so you’ll know what’s working and what isn’t working.
- Change your blog linking structure. By default, most blogs don’t have SEO-friendly URL structures. Change it so your keywords are in there by default.
- Use the Google Keyword Tool to find potential keywords to try and optimize for. Try to find questions that your ideal clients want to know the answers to.
- Find a world-class template to use. Make sure it has both great design and ease of navigation.
- Start commenting on other blogs related to yours. Start getting known in your space.
- Create a posting schedule. It’s more important that you post consistently than perfectly. If you can have at least 1-2 posts scheduled at any given time, you’re in good shape.
- Write provocative blog posts to showcase your unique passions, beliefs & core message.
- Submit press releases to online PR sites. This will not only result in a bunch of backlinks to your blog, at best you’ll get picked up by a reputable website which would result in a lot of traffic as well as a high PR backlink.
- Create a “Frequently Asked Questions” about your industry, profession or what your specialty.
- Remember to share your links on your social media sites including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, plus bookmarking sites like Digg, StumbleUpon & Delicious.
