The First Step in Becoming a Full-Time Traveler

First Visit to Yellowstone

Do other people make it look easy to live the life you have dreamed of? Have you noticed that these same people seem to sail through life, as well?

They are not rolling in riches and it’s not because they’ve discovered budget travel hacks. The first step in becoming a digital nomad is this: Knowing that anything is possible.

Does that sound too simple? Trite? Immature?

Then that’s why you are not a full-time traveler yet. The right mindset is your key to turning your dream into reality.

You have the power to choose your thoughts, which guides your actions and creates your reality — no matter what circumstances you are in. Developing the right mindset will help you reach your goals, including being able to travel all of the time.

It’s Simple, But Not Easy

Developing a manifesting mindset sounds simple. It’s just not as easy as creating a vision board.

Speaking of vision boards, have you ever created one with beautiful pictures… and then thought it was a pipe dream?

Make a conscious effort every day to listen to how often your inner voice is negative versus positive. That voice of negativity wants to sabotage your success, keep you in your comfort zone, and make you fearful.

When you hear that negative voice, look deeply into that thought and see if there is anything useful in it for you. For example, if you are feeling fearful about a new endeavor, listen deeply and see if there is any validity to that fear. If not, recognize that it’s self-sabotaging talk and move forward.

Retrain your Brain

Once you have recognized the negative talk and realize it is not valid, move on to the next step, which is to retrain your brain. Take that thought of, “What if I fail?” and change it to “What if I succeed?”

Retraining your brain takes practice every day. The use of positive affirmations is a useful tool in retraining your brain. Although it might feel a bit awkward at first, positive affirmations really do work.

Align Yourself with Success

We all have goals. The difference between those who succeed and those who fail are those who succeed are willing to try. If you are afraid of failure, see how you can turn that around. Reframe trying and failure as a way of learning.

Align yourself with success by meeting people who are already traveling, or taking steps to do so. I started by watching YouTube videos, reading blogs, and joining Facebook groups for full-time travelers.

Next, set yourself up for success, by starting or changing your business so that you can earn money while you travel. You don’t have to travel far to start exploring. Become a local tourist and explore what’s in your own backyard. When you can, go on short trips during “work hours” and work out the kinks with your “location independent” business.

Put yourself in places where you are bound to succeed, and learn to recognize that even if you fail once or twice, the mere fact that you are trying aligns you with success.

Once you have succeed in smaller steps, you will feel more confident to take on more and more eventually becoming a full-time traveler.
